Abstract
Lobelia nicotaenifolia a member of lobeliaceae used to treat bronchitis, asthma, insect and scorpion bites. Infusion of the leaves is said to be antispasmodic. It induces nausea and vomiting. It is also used in commercial preparations of antismoking products. The plant has been recorded to contain several alkaloids, with the main alkaloid lobeline, being at higher concentration. Direct organogenesis is obtained in Lobelia nicotaenifolia An efficient protocol for micropropagation of L.nicotaenifolia has been developed. Maximum number of multiple shoots was obtained from nodal explants on MS medium supplemented with BAP (8.8 μM) and NAA (2.4μM). In vitro derived shoots when transferred to half strength MS medium containing Kn (9.2 μM), IBA (2.4 μM) supplemented with 1.5% activated charcoal induced rooting. Rooted plants were hardened and transferred to green house conditions with 90% survivability
