Abstract

Hemoglobin βCys93 plays a pivotal role in cardiovascular physiology through its unique molecular interactions and structural properties. This variant of hemoglobin, characterized by the presence of cysteine at position 93 in the beta chain, influences oxygen transport and affinity within red blood cells. Moreover, βCys93 is implicated in regulating vascular tone and endothelial function, thereby influencing overall cardiovascular health. Understanding the physiological significance of βCys93 is crucial for elucidating its impact on oxygen delivery, tissue perfusion, and adaptation to physiological stressors. This review explores current knowledge and potential therapeutic implications of hemoglobin βCys93 in cardiovascular pathophysiology.
